10.31.11 no reason not to like november
It’s true November is not one of our prettier months. In fact, it’s probably tied with March as the homely wallflower of the calendar girls. Most of us don’t even think about November (except of course, the 11th) as much more than a few weeks to regroup between Halloween and Christmas (and hallelujah for that!).
But since tomorrow is November 1st, I thought it a good little exercise to remember a few of the less celebrated, but still positive, qualities of ‘the nothing month’. Perhaps I can romance you into giving this wallflower another look.
November’s best attributes: brilliant wet leaves on shiny black pavement… sunny afternoons that coax us out to wash windows (ok, not so fun, but so worth it when they’re done)… the smell of roast dinners on Sundays… church craft sales on Saturdays… brisk dog walks on fresh-aired nights (when you can wear whatever the heck you want under a big, bulky coat because no one sees you anyway)… pyramids of crisp apples at the grocery store… the smell of the first fire in the fireplace… and nothing beats this… no yard work!
Sometimes we have to look beyond the obvious to find the beauty. Sure there are the show-off months that boast beautiful snowfalls; the year’s longest day; glorious golden leaves; but it’s often the the quiet little pleasures - life’s inner beauty, shall we say - that reminds us we can always find a silver lining, even in the heavy gray clouds of November.

from my studioIt still amazes me what a little injection of colour does for a neutral interior. Orange can be Tricky to use but look what a Treat it is here! Our square stools are great paired as a coffee table, or individually for extra seating at a party.
