07.11.11 the artist in you
We’ve all met a truly ‘artistic’ person. Someone who just seems to have magic in their fingertips and can turn anything - a room; a tabletop; flowers - into something beautiful. It’s true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but some things are pleasing to more eyes than others. I remember seeing a documentary about what made some people seem more beautiful to us than others. It was all about tiny measurements on the face - the space between the eyes; between the lip and nose - increments that were unnoticeable and yet came together to create something the world viewed as beautiful.
Many years ago I toured a house with a decorator who told me her client paid her to place picture frames and trinkets the way they looked best, and then take a snapshot, so that she could replicate exactly how things should be placed. That seemed extreme to me and frankly, kind of sad. Didn’t the lady-of-the-house want to move her own possessions around and see where they looked best? Or maybe change them with the seasons or holidays?
I know we’re all not into decorating as a passion or hobby, but I do believe everyone should feel their home is their own to comfort them privately, and express them publicly. Whether you view yourself an artist or not, allow yourself the pleasure of placing your favourite mementos where you think they look best. The beauty of a home is in the eye of the owner.

from my studioI’ll always have blue and white in the cobistyle collection in some form or other - it looks so great with neutrals! But this season, I particularly love the ‘Connection’ drapery panel with a creamy linen-look neutral on top, gorgeous navy velvet ribbon detail, and then a bold geometric on the bottom. So handsome!
