Just to prove that those of us who love to decorate, can do it just about anywhere…

One of the cutest things I did this summer to satiate the decorating bug that looms inside of me was to put a seldom used (ok, I admit it, never used) silver exercise ball in the pool. Yup. That’s it. Just put it in and let it do the work. My kind of exercise! It floats around and gives my eye great delight each time I look out, creating different views and pictures.

I guess it’s the scale of the ball and the colour - which blends with the stone - that makes it so pleasing.

Anyway, I know it’s a bit of a goofy idea but that’s what I love about blogs - you can be goofy! So it you have a big rubber ball hanging around your basement, try floating it around in your pool instead. At least you can say it’s being used!!

ps. This idea doesn’t work if your pool has a bunch of noodles and water guns hanging around the edge - they ruin the aesthetic. You’ll have to clean them up first for this idea to work(good motivation). Enjoy the last week of summer!! arg.

Sorry for taking so long to get back…
I seem to have so much catching up to do after a summer of too much play with the kids smile  September is always like that I find.
Anyway, about the mirror!  We needed a focal point on the side of that building and found it at a wonderful reclamation company in Toronto called Post and Beam Reclamation, check out http://www.pandb.ca/.  It was originally a window out of a beautiful old estate ~I can only a imagine a home with a window of this scale and gorgeous shape.  We left it completely intact and had a mirror cut to fit the back and siliconed it in place.  I have to admit, we’ve had a few bits of moisture make their way in between the original glass and mirror which you can see if you’re close, but we just couldn’t figure out another way to do it without weakening the structure of the window.
When we hung it, I had the guys make two wooden wedges to place behind the mirror so that it is actually on a bit of a tilt downward.  That makes the pool reflect at least in part of the mirror rather than only seeing a reflection of the back of our house - it made a huge difference.
I hope that helps!

The exercise ball in the pool is a fun idea grin May as well put it to good use, right?!

I love your pink & orange blog design. It reminds me of one of my favourite Jamie Drake rooms grin

COBI! I’m thrilled to have found you at last! You were always the best part of H&H magazine. You write as if you are speaking to a good friend, it’s always ‘real’ (not crazy about using that word, but it fits) and not contrived or forced. So glad that you are back where we can ‘hang out together’ again! Your website is so fresh and optimistic, a little pick-me-up for sure.

My dream is to have a pool, I’ve wanted one since I was a kid. The house we have now has the room, but we are too close to the ocean and it’s too cold. We have recently bought a new house in a warmer area, but the lot is smaller and I don’t think it’ll be in the card there either. Seeing you accessorize your pool certainly made me smile-it’s something I would do too! The fact that you shared your ‘decor tip’ is wonderful-I don’t think too many in the decor world would even think of it.

So glad to see you back Cobi, I will back to read often.

Heck who cares what you put in your pool when it looks like yours , it is lovely , but the sphere is so zen , right!
